Contracts Experience

The key to negotiating a good contract is to analyze the real needs of the parties to the contract.

While serving as an attorney for Governor Mike Foster, Patrick Martin was part of the team that negotiated millions of dollars worth of economic development contracts with Northrup-Grumann Ship Services, Bollinger Shipyards, and other major corporations in Louisiana. These contracts were highly complex, multi-year projects involving a mixture of public and private financing to upgrade Louisiana-based industry and encourage these corporations to maintain a significant number of employees in this state. Not only were these contracts required to adhere to lengthy statutory requirements, they also had to include significant protections for the state to insure that, should the companies not meet the employment guarantees made in the contracts, the state would get back a fair portion of its funding.
